While I was on a business trip my daughter ran out of ink on our HP7612 larger format printer, and she went to Amazon and purchased a set of non-HP replacement ink cartridges. She was able to finish printing a school assignment, but the printer advised her that she used non-HP ink and problems may exist. The next time she fired up the printer it threw an error that the print head could not be found. I returned and tried all recommended fixes with no luck. I put the old, empty HP ink cartridges back in but there was no luck there. The printer is locked in a cycle of print head not found and will not allow access to printer setup. Someone suggested new HP cartridges, but I'm not spending $60 on ink, based on a maybe. What does it take to regain usage of my HP7612 printer?

If you do a google search for "hp 7612 printhead not detected" it will give you a list of fixes to try along with some videos. Sometimes a new printhead is the only solution. It was a good idea to put the old cartridges in for testing. Sometimes the aftermarket cartridges just don't play well with HP products. I would keep the used HP ones around for testing after trying to get the printhead working again or replacing. But you may have to buy new HP cartridges to finish the install of a new printhead since sometimes the printhead installation won't complete unless there's a minimum amount of ink available. Not sure if that's true for this model.
