Officejet Pro 8625
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Home based network with a Win10 and a Win7 laptop, plus a couple of iPads and an Android phone all  printing to an ethernet connected Officejet Pro 8625.  All has been working fine for 2 years until 2 weeks ago.

Suddenly, when attempting to print from the Win7 pro64 system, the print job appears in the queue and then dissapears but the printer doesn't print anything.  The Win10 system and all other sources still prints fine.

Everything else on the Win7 system appears to be working fine i.e.

  • The printer prints its internal test page
  • The printer prints when using ePrint
  • The PC recognises and communicates with the printer
  • Scanning function works fine - when initiated from both the PC and from the printer

I have tried

  • uninstalling and reinstalling the software (several times from HP site)
  • restarting the printer queue service
  • turning off the firewall
  • running the HP Print and Scan Doctor (5.0.0.080)
  • combinations of all of the above

I also tried restoring the Win7 system to a RESTORE point from before the problem started,,, this really started causing a lot of issues but didn't help the printer.

Absolutely no joy from any of them and despite way too many  hours of googling and searching forums I can't find a solution.

On the Win7 system, the PRINT SERVER PROPERTIES / PORTS points to a HP Discovery Port Monitor registered under the OJPro serial number.  I've been unable to CONFIGURE that port since the system won't allow me to access it.  On the Win10 system, it points to a WSD port with something that looks like a registry address.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom

"INCONCEIVABLE!!!!"

After ALL these troubleshooting attempts and HOURS wasted on re-install after re-install,,, I happened to find another thread dealing with someone working on a USB installed printer but having the same problem with their print spooler.

They recommended going to DEVICES AND PRINTERS, right click on the printer to pull up PRINTER PROPERTIES.  Select ADVANCED and select PRINT DIRECTLY TO PRINTER to test bypassing the print spooler.  Well of course, that's not going to work on a network system and I got the associated error msg when I attempted a print job.

So I selected back to SPOOL PRINT DOCUMENTS along with START PRINTING IMMEDIATELY as was the original selection.  Gee whiz, just to try it, I hit the print job again,,, AND IT WORKED!!!  I now seem to have my print spooler connected to my network printer again!!  (even after several reboots now just to test it).

All I can guess is that the WIN7 Pro 64 print spooler was screwed up somewhere and all I did was reset it somehow.

@COAv8r

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I came across your post and would like to help. I read that you have an HP Officejet Pro 8625 e-All-in-One Printer and it is connected to a wired network. The printer stopped printing print jobs. However, the printer is able to print test pages and even scan. You have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, restarted the printer queue service, turned off the firewall, ran the HP print and scan doctor program and the issue still persists. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a commendable job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any updates take place on the PC after which this issue may have started?
  • Does the printer work from other devices connected to the network?

You have isolated the issue well, the network connectivity exists between the printer and the PC. Therefore, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Let us grant permissions to the printer folder.
  • Click on the Windows start button and click on run.
  • In the run windows, type "spool" and click on OK.

  • Right click on the Printers folder and select properties

  • Under "groups or user names", select the first entry and click on Edit button.

  • Enable full control for that user name of group and click on Apply and OK.
  • Similarly, repeated this cycle for each entry under "groups or usernames."

Once you complete the above steps, please add more permissions by following the below steps:

  • Click on Windows start button and click on Devices and Printers.
  • Right click on your installed printer and select "printer properties." It should bring a window as shown below:

  • Under "group or user names" select each entry and allow all permissions.
  • Click on Apply and OK.
  • Repeat same process for each entry in "group or user names."

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. All the best! 🙂

Hi Kasi,

Well, I was hopeful that your steps would fix this issue, but alas, no.  Followed each step specifically and anything I send to the printer now still sits on the queue for a minute or so then spools off like it just printed.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any updates take place on the PC after which this issue may have started?  (That's my guess as well, something must have updated through the Win7 updates that has killed my printer server.  I  RESTOREd the system to a point I though was before this issue began, but that didn't help it.)
  • Does the printer work from other devices connected to the network  (Yes it does.  Prints fine from everything except my Win7 system)

"

Thanks for your time & effort Kasi.

@COAv8r

You're welcome and thank you for attempting the steps. 🙂

We could try to uninstall the printer drivers from root level and then reinstall them using the below steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Please download and install the drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2mbIcSw

Let me know. All the best! 🙂

Hi Kazi,

Alas, no joy.  I still am watching print jobs spool off the print queue on my Win7 system, but the printer never burps.  The Win10 system and both ipads still print fine.

OK, my shoulders are shrugged and hands in the air,,, I've got NO clue what's going on here.

I'm having the same issue with a HP Officejet J6480 on an HP pc updated to windows 10 last year.

Basically spent most of today doing all the items referenced in this stream and still the print jobs flash in print queue and disappear as quickly without printing.

Tried all but step 4 as i'm using an USB connection and still the print queue flashes and then shows nothing in print queue.

But the scanner works via the USB connection.

The print a diagnostics page and align cartride works from the printer services  page.

It prints via wireless conncetion from a laptop.

It just won't print from the pc.

Any other options to try??

Thanks for your reply. 🙂

Let me know your exact printer model no.This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Secondly, please try to install and use the Windows inbuilt printer drivers: Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

NOTE: When you are on the list of printer drivers to choose from, please choose HP Deskjet 990c as the printer drivers and install.

Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂
