HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printer
Chrome OS

I am receiving "printer can't connect" error for HP Photosmart C6280 which is connected via USB cable to my Chromebook. The printer was fine in December 2021, then just stopped connecting in Jan 2022. There are no drivers or firmware updates available for this HP model and my Chromebook IOS is up to date.

I tried turning off Wi-Fi while the printer was connected.

I tried connecting the printer to a different laptop and received the same error.

I reset the network and factory settings on the printer, powered it off/on.

I uninstalled the printer from my Chromebook with the intention of re-installing it.  The printer is not listed when I try to add a printer. When I use "advanced settings" and try to add it manually, I am prompted for the printer IP address. I previously searched the community forum and there was a statement that an IP address is not required when printer is connected by a USB cable. I tried using "automatic" as the IP address and it still won't recognize the printer.

What else can I try other than replacing the USB cable (if I can even find one that fits this printer from 2008)?

Thank you!
