Thanks for taking time to respond. I actually did all that several times. I used Chrome, but on an IMAC, which I think is why the files don’t come through….due to the message the site is not secure.
I discovered that the time was set wrong on my printer. I fixed that and lo and behold it works! Now that was easy…finally.
Thanks again, your info was right on as to how to do this, I think I actually have memorized it…. 🙂

Hi @geowalt,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is when you're trying to renew your printer's certificate and the process fails, especially when you're met with security warnings and corrupted file errors. Let's walk through a few steps with clarity and care.
🔐 Issue: "Encryption Credentials Expired" + Corrupted Certificate File on iOS
This error occurs when your HP ENVY Inspire 7958e printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) certificate has expired. iOS/macOS devices reject expired certificates, which breaks AirPrint and secure printing.
Fix – Create a New Self-Signed Certificate
Unfortunately, you cannot generate a new certificate from iOS. HP recommends using a Windows PC to complete the process safely:
Steps to Renew the Certificate:
- Find your printer’s IP address:
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi Summary.
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Wi-Fi Summary.
- Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- On a Windows PC, open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address.
- On a Windows PC, open a browser and enter the printer’s IP address.
- Switch to Desktop View (important!):
- Mobile view does not show the certificate options.
- Mobile view does not show the certificate options.
- Go to:
Network > Advanced Settings > Certificates
- Click "Configure" > "Create a New Self-Signed Certificate" > Next > Finish
- The printer will generate a new certificate valid for 10 years.

Why the File Shows as Corrupted on iOS
- iOS may reject the certificate if it’s downloaded in the wrong format or from an insecure connection.
- Always use desktop view on a Windows PC to avoid this issue.
- Avoid using Safari or mobile browsers for certificate tasks.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
