I am trying to connect my spouse's printer to my computer as his computer was taken down.  I get a message saying Foreign IPs connection: Russia, Poland, Brazil.  Must be deleted before I can try connecting printer.  I have no idea what this is or how to fix it.

Hi @Trinese,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The message you are receiving about foreign IPs (Internet Protocol addresses) from Russia, Poland, and Brazil suggests that there may be some security concerns with your network or the device you're trying to connect to your computer. It's essential to take network security seriously, as unauthorized access can lead to various issues, including data breaches and device control.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

Check Network Security:

  • Ensure that your home network is secure by using a strong Wi-Fi password. You can access your router settings to change the Wi-Fi password if needed.
  • Make sure your router's firmware is up to date to patch any known vulnerabilities.
  • Consider enabling WPA2 or WPA3 encryption for your Wi-Fi network, which provides better security than older encryption methods.

Disconnect Suspicious Devices:

  • Log in to your router's web interface (usually accessible via a web browser using the router's IP address) and check the list of connected devices. Disconnect any devices that you don't recognize or trust.

Change Default Passwords:

  • If you haven't changed the default password for your printer or any other connected devices, do so immediately. Default passwords are easy targets for attackers.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure your HP LaserJet Pro P1109w printer's firmware is up to date. Manufacturers often release firmware updates that fix security vulnerabilities.

Install Security Software:

  • Install and run a reputable antivirus and anti-malware software on your computer. Perform a full system scan to check for any malware that might be causing the issue.

Network Firewall:

  • If you have a network firewall, review its settings and ensure it's properly configured to block unwanted incoming connections.

Connect the Printer Securely:

  • Once you've taken the necessary security measures, attempt to connect the printer again. Ensure that you're connecting it to your secure, private network, and not through any public networks or VPNs.

Network Logs:

  • Review the logs on your router to see if there have been any recent suspicious activities or attempts to access your network from foreign IPs. This information may help identify the source of the issue.

By following these steps, you can improve the security of your network and devices, which should help you connect your HP LaserJet Pro P1109w printer to your computer without encountering security warnings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
