The warranty has expired on my HP ENVY 5032 printer. Can I still use it on a new Mac Airplay? It has connected but will not print. The Driver version is 3.6.2. It seems to want a name in the general connection panel, what should I fill in here? Very grateful for any easy to inderstand suggestions!

Hi @AnitaSteAg,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Great question! Yes, you can absolutely keep using your HP ENVY 5032 on a new Mac even though the warranty has expired. The printer is AirPrint-compatible, so it should work seamlessly with macOS without needing extra drivers. The issue you’re facing, connected but not printing, usually comes down to driver conflicts or incorrect printer setup in macOS.
Here’s the approved fix path:
Step 1: Remove Old Printer Queue
- On your Mac:
- Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP ENVY 5032 and click Remove (-).
Step 2: Add Printer Using AirPrint
- Click Add Printer (+).
- Your printer should appear under Nearby Printers.
- Select it and ensure Use: AirPrint is chosen (not HP driver).
- Click Add.
Step 3: What to Enter in “Name” Field
- This is just a friendly name for your printer (e.g., “HP ENVY 5032” or “Home Printer”).
- It does not affect connectivity, just helps you identify it later.
Step 4: Update macOS & HP Software
- Update macOS to the latest version.
- Install HP App for Mac from the App Store: 👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
Step 5: Test with AirPrint
- Open Preview or Safari → Print → Select your HP printer.
- Ensure Paper Size and Media Type match your settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
