HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

First, about 6 months ago after a major Win update, my printer Deskjet 4155e stopped printing duplex automatically.  Now I have to flip pages mannually to get duplex copies.  Where can I find the setting to fix this?

Second: how should the printer be installed on the PC -- which driver?  The printer is installed 2 ways on my PC:

1) as HP Deskjet 4100 series [015CC8] with a driver of Microsoft IPP Class Driver

2) As HP Deskjet 4100 series PCL-3 with driver HP DJ 4100 series PCL.

@Sharyn4, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like there are two main issues here: the duplex printing not working automatically and the printer being installed with multiple drivers. Let's address both of them one by one.

Duplex Printing Issue

Open Printer Preferences:

Go to Start > Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Find your printer (HP DeskJet 4155e), and click on it.

Click Manage.

Now, click Printing Preferences.

Enable Duplex Printing:

In the Printing Preferences window, look for a tab or setting related to Duplex Printing or Two-Sided Printing. This can be in the Paper/Quality or Layout tab, depending on your driver version.

Ensure that Duplex Printing or Two-Sided Printing is set to Auto or Flip on Long Edge.

Save these settings and try printing again.

Printer Driver Installation

It looks like your printer is installed with two different drivers:

Microsoft IPP Class Driver – This is a basic driver that Windows uses for compatibility purposes, but it doesn’t always support all advanced features like duplex printing.

HP DJ 4100 series PCL – This is the full-feature HP driver for your DeskJet 4155e and will support advanced features like duplex printing.

To make sure your printer works with all of its features, you should be using the HP driver (the second one listed).

I hope this helps.

I followed the steps and the only option is to MANUALLY flip pages for duplex.  I'm fairly sure the printer did AUTOMATIC duplex printing before.

Hey @Sharyn4,

Thank you for your response

Kindly follow the below steps:

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Restart Print Spooler (Windows):

  1. Search services in the search box. Open the service menu.
  2. In the list, find Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click Print Spooler and click Restart.
    1. If it’s stopped, click Start instead.
  4. Close the window. Check if the issue persists

I hope this helps.
