Hello, Still trying to install the printer driver for the HP Envy 6100e Series.

The software download gives me 2 options. A lighter option and the 2nd option is Full Options.

I tried both. The 2nd option was around 400 mb, and the lighter version 171 mb.  I tried both.

I am downloading using a USB connection between laptop and printer.  I have turned OFF 'Allow apps access to location"

Is this a problem. Because it told me the larger mb failed and had no explaination available.

The smaller mb downloaded but then wanted access to 'specific location access' for the wifi.

I am not using wifi. I declined. Then it popped up with a box that would not permit continuation of the software/printer installation.   THEN when I did say YES, it required me to agree to the ALL APPS having access to specific location.  I do not think any of this is necessary. BUT it would not permit the completion of the software  & printer launch.

Google search says this is not necessary for software driver download and set up with USB cable.

I selected USB Cable connection in prompt process, so why the access needed.

Google then says that HP does require it but it's not necessary with the USB.

NOW WHAT?     ( I did get Malwarebytes loaded and running since the initial problem with scammers during my first attempt to download the driver, now this! Ugh.)

Hi @Kosmicl,

1. For this specific model Envy 6100e the best "happy path" to install the first time is using your iPhone or Android phone using a Wireless connection.

2. Then, you can run the install process, also Wifi connection,  in your computer with HP App.

  • Note: about the location setup, it is neccesary only for the first installation, once you install printer you can disable.

3. ....and then after that you can simply plug your USB cable and Add printer using

Windows > Settings > Printer option to Add printer.

...and yes, I know it is a cumbersome process to simply install a printer, but that is the way this Envy 6100e printer was designed for,

...to be working most of the time only wireless.
