I’m stuck at the spot it says Firmware Updates.  When I select Auto and press save nothing happens.  The only thing on the little screen is that.  It’s a new printer and haven’t been able to use.

@Chmzgloria, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're stuck on the Firmware Updates screen of your new HP printer, and selecting Auto > Save doesn’t proceed further. Let’s get this resolved so you can start using your printer.

Power Cycle the Printer

Sometimes the firmware update screen can freeze due to a glitch.

  • Turn off the printer using the Power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check if the printer boots normally and bypasses the firmware update screen.

Perform a Reset

This reset can help clear stuck settings without affecting your printer's hardware.

Note: This will reset network settings and some preferences. You may need to reconnect to Wi-Fi afterward.

  • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer on.

If the screen still shows the firmware update prompt, proceed to the next step.

Update Firmware via HP Smart App or HP Software Utility

If the printer is stuck but still responsive, you can try updating the firmware from your PC or mobile device.

  • Download the HP Smart App: HP Smart
  • Add your printer to the app.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
  • If available, install the latest firmware.

Alternatively, use the HP Printer Update Utility:

  • Visit: Official HP® Support
  • Enter your printer model.
  • Download and run the Firmware Update Utility for Windows or macOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
