Hi @GJB2020,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP GT 5820 EWS password being forgotten and the usual button reset options not working. Let’s go through the correct way to clear it.

Before we proceed:

Is the printer currently powered on and working for printing?

Can you access the printer’s IP address in a browser (even though it asks for the password)?

Meanwhile, follow these steps:

Step 1: Restore Network Settings from the Control Panel (Clears EWS Password)

  • On the GT 5820:
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel (X) button together.
  • Hold for 5–7 seconds.
  • Release when the blue wireless light starts blinking.
  • Wait 30 seconds.
  • This restores network settings, which typically resets the EWS admin password.
  • After that:
    5. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi.
    6. Access the printer IP in a browser again.
    7. Try logging in without a password.

If that combination is not working, continue below.

Step 2: Restore Defaults via EWS (If You Can Still Access It)

  • If you can reach the EWS login page:
  • Leave the password field blank and try login.
  • If unsuccessful, try default:
  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin

(Some older models revert to blank after network reset.)

Step 3: Router-Based Reset (If Still Locked)

  • If the EWS password does not clear:
  • Assign the printer a new IP via router (remove old DHCP lease).
  • Power cycle printer.
  • Access new IP in browser.
  • Sometimes cached credentials interfere.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Unfortunately This did not work! Any other way to factory reset completely. I remomenber doing it years back with your team support but do not have documentation.

Thanks,

Ghanshyam
