We are shipping HP Envy printers with some of our products, and are installing the same driver package, HPEasyStart-12.8.9 (EN6000/HPEasyStart-12.8.9-EN6000_51_2_4771_1_Full_Webpack.exe), on many devices with the exact same OS configuration. In our installation procedure, the wireless functionality is disabled, as we are using USB only.
However, in some cases the printer is not working with our device software after installation. This seems to correlate with the type of driver selected by the HPEasyStart installer. It seems to be two variants of the HP Envy-driver version 31.1.2001.7898 that might be installed: One is a Type 4 driver (hpgid31v4) an the other Type 3 (hpgid31).
When the "Type 4" driver is installed, the printer gets the name "HP ENVY 6000 series PCL-3", and when the "Type 3" driver is installed the printer gets the name "HP ENVY 6000 series PCL3" (i.e., without the dash). The type 3 driver doesn't seem to work as expected, but it seems random what driver is installed by the HP installer. (Sometimes, the correct driver is correctly installed by the OS after a while. However, as the product is shipped with a write protected OS-setup this is not a solution for us.)
Is this a known issue? Is there a way to ensure that the correct driver is consistently installed?
