HP LJ MFP 135w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I turn on the printer HP LJ MFP 135w, it  is stuck  with an information on its display: "wait image" (after "system Initialize" message). And I cannot move from this state. Unplugging the power doesn't help.  I cannot connect to the printer using HP Smart on  Windows 10. The printers seems to be offline.

How can I install, update the firmware or do factory reset  when the message "wait image" is shown and I cannot access the firmware tool to update the printers firmware?

How can I do the  factory reset using only the printer buttons ?

Thanks.

Hi @Bela10,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP LaserJet MFP 135w is stuck on the "wait image" message, it indicates that the printer is having trouble initializing properly. To address this issue, you may need to perform a factory reset or update the firmware. Here’s how you can attempt to resolve the issue.

Factory Reset Using Printer Buttons

  • Turn Off the Printer:
  • Ensure the printer is turned off completely.
  • Press and Hold Buttons:
  • Press and hold the Power button and the Cancel button simultaneously.
  • Turn On the Printer:
  • While still holding the buttons, turn on the printer.
  • Wait for Reset:
  • Continue holding the buttons until the printer powers up and shows some sign of resetting, then release the buttons.
  • Initialization:
  • Allow the printer to go through its initialization process. This might take a few minutes.

Updating Firmware

Since the printer is offline and stuck, updating the firmware via traditional means (software tools) might be challenging. However, if the printer responds after the reset, you can try the following.

  • Check Connectivity:
  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your network. You may need to reconnect it if it has been reset.
  • Download Firmware:
  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP LaserJet MFP 135w). Download the latest firmware for your printer.
  • Use HP Firmware Update Utility:
  • Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update utility to install the firmware. This typically involves running the utility on your computer and following the on-screen prompts.
  • USB Connection (if Network Fails):
  • If the network connection is not possible, connect the printer directly to your computer via USB. The firmware update utility should detect the printer and allow you to update the firmware.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the initialization issue and bring your HP LaserJet MFP 135w back to working condition.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,

I've  just tried to do the Factory Reset Using Printer Buttons  according to your instruction but without success.
1.Turn Off the Printer
2. Press and Hold Buttons
3.Turn On the Printer
4. Wait for Reset:

In the 4th  step I get the message: "Download Mode. Press Stop Key" and about 3 seconds after that the printer is again stuck with "wait image" message.

I don't know which is the Stop key? Could You help me?

 Thanks

Hi @Bela10,

Thank you for your response,

The "Stop Key" typically refers to a button on the printer's control panel that is labeled as "Stop" or "Cancel." It's usually used to stop or cancel the current operation or job on the printer.

On the HP Laser MFP 135w, the "Stop" button may be represented by an icon or text on the control panel. It's often a button with an "X" symbol or a label that says "Stop" or "Cancel."

Try pressing the button that looks like it could be used to stop or cancel a print job when you see the "Download Mode. Press Stop Key" message during the factory reset process. This should allow you to exit the download mode and proceed with the factory reset.
