When printing from the computer onto card stock I use Tray 2.  If I try to COPY from the printer itself onto card stock in Tray 2 the printer says that Tray 2 is  designed to hold plain paper only.  If that statement is true, then how come card stock can be used in Tray 2 when printing as opposed to Copying?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Use of card stock for a copy function is possible only from Tray 1.

Refer to paper-handling specifications section>supported cards: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8720-all-in-one-printer-series/7902032/documen...
