HP OfficeJet Pro 9128e All-in-One Printer

HP Smart cannot locate my new printer HP Officejet Pro 9128e.  I have reset my router and turned the printer off 4 times and it still cannot locate the printer.  The printer screen is locked on "Return to SetUp Website" so there is no way for me to manually reset the WiFI.  I have tried the on line chat support but nothing they are suggesting is available or works.

@Lovee14,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Power Cycle Printer and Router:

  • First, ensure both the printer and your router are powered off.
  • Wait for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute before turning them back on. This can sometimes help reset the connection issues.

Reset Printer to Factory Settings:

Since your printer screen is stuck on "Return to SetUp Website," it might be necessary to perform a manual factory reset to clear any current settings.

1. On the control panel Home screen, touch Menu.

2. Scroll to Utilities and touch Tools.

3. Touch Maintenance and then touch Restore Settings.

4. Select the feature and change the desired settings.

Use the Printer’s Control Panel to Set Up Wi-Fi:

  • If the reset works and you see the setup screen, follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network. It may prompt you to enter your Wi-Fi credentials.

Use HP Smart App for Setup:

After resetting, try setting up the printer again using the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.

  • Open the app, select Set Up a New Printer, and follow the instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  • The app should automatically detect the printer once it's connected to the same network.

Manual Wi-Fi Setup:

If the "Return to SetUp Website" message is still present, you can also try accessing the printer's IP address from a web browser.

  • If your printer prints a configuration page (usually accessible from the printer menu under "Print Configuration" or "Network Status"), it will show you the printer's IP address.
  • Enter the printer's IP address into a web browser, and this should bring up the embedded web server. From there, you can manually configure the Wi-Fi settings.

Reinstall HP Smart Software:

  • If you’re still having trouble, you might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart software to ensure there’s no corruption in the app.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
