**UPDATE**  I was finally able to get my printer setup! I probably spent a total of 8 hours trying. I decided to give it one last try this morning before heading to Best Buy for a new printer. I'm not sure what was different this time, because I tried so many fixes, resets, menus, drivers, firmware, etc....I can't even recount all of them. This one was a cork sticker for sure! Fixing it saved me a few hundred dollars this time. Whew!

ORIGINAL POST:

I'm having major problems with my HP LaserJet M234sdw ever since I accidentally tried to use an HP Instant Ink cartridge after I had already cancelled my Instant Ink subscription a year ago. I removed the cartridge and installed a new HP cartridge from Best Buy. However, ever since then I've had problems and cannot print! I've had this printer for over two years, and this is the first major problem I've had with it. I've been around computers, both work and home, for 40 years and can usually figure out and correct issues, but this one has me stumped and going in circles!

This is a long story with lots of details, but I'll try to keep it short for clarity. Yesterday afternoon I was at my wit's end and finally did a chat session with three different HP support agents who couldn't fix the problem. I've spent at least 4 hours uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and the HP Smart app, unplugging, reinstalling, etc., but nothing has worked!

Key Details: 1) HP Instant Ink shows my subscription cancelled, which is correct, 2) my Windows device settings show the printer is connected and ready, 3) When I try to print a document, I get a message that says Attention Required, 5) HP Smart App tells me "Printer Setup Incomplete". The printer appears to be setup, and I can't figure out, after searching every possible menu, just what exactly is NOT setup with this printer? It is setup and online but won't print and needs attention. It would be helpful it I knew exactly what it sees that ISN"T SETUP!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I can't figure this out, I will need to purchase another printer, and it will NOT be an HP next time. I've had various problems before with two different HP printers and this is the final straw.

Hi Kuroi, I hope it's okay that I just reply here. The case number is: Edited.

The frustrating part about my experience is that after the 3rd HP tech tried to help me, he finally told me the printer was no longer supported by the HP Instant Ink program! After all the time I spent with three different techs, and having granted the second one to take control of my computer, and he didn't realize that the printer we were trying to connect was no longer supported! My printer is only about 2-1/2 years old. It's unbelievable that it's no longer supported. So, I ended up with an unused HP Instant Ink cartridge that is now useless to me. I will be shipping it off with the HP return label, via UPS, to their recycling program. Thank goodness my printer is now working with the HP cartridge from Best Buy. I still can't believe that I got it working again all by myself!!! After all the settings changes, various menus I was in, changing things, etc.....and not knowing if I was messing things up so bad that I'd just have to send it off for recycling as well! LOL In the end it all worked out.
