I am having trouble with inserting the ink cartridges. I cannot find detail written instructions for inserting the ink cartridges. The printer display shows that the Magenta (Red), Cyan (Blue) and Black cartridges are missing or damaged.

Hi @etrouillier,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve the issue with inserting the ink cartridges in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e All-in-One Printer, follow these detailed steps.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Inserting Ink Cartridges
Power On the Printer
- Ensure your printer is plugged in and turned on.
- If the printer is already on, make sure it is in a ready state (not printing or performing any other task).
Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door
- Lift the ink cartridge access door. This is typically located at the front of the printer. The carriage should move to the center of the printer, making it easier to access the cartridges.
Wait for the Carriage to Stop Moving
- Allow the carriage to stop moving and become idle and silent before proceeding.
Remove the New Ink Cartridges from Their Packaging
- Take each new ink cartridge out of its packaging.
- Remove the plastic tape from each cartridge. Be careful not to touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles to avoid clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
Insert the Ink Cartridges
- Black Cartridge: Insert the black ink cartridge into the right slot.
- Cyan (Blue) Cartridge: Insert the cyan ink cartridge into the slot marked with the corresponding color.
- Magenta (Red) Cartridge: Insert the magenta ink cartridge into the slot marked with the corresponding color.
- Yellow Cartridge: Insert the yellow ink cartridge into the slot marked with the corresponding color (though you mentioned no issue with yellow, it is important to ensure it is correctly placed).
Push the Cartridges into Place
- Gently push each ink cartridge into its slot until it clicks into place.
- Ensure the cartridges are firmly seated and not loose.
Close the Ink Cartridge Access Door
- Once all cartridges are correctly inserted, close the ink cartridge access door.
Check the Printer Display
- The printer should recognize the new cartridges and display a confirmation message.
- If the display still shows that the cartridges are missing or damaged, try removing and reinserting the cartridges.

Note:
- Clean the Contacts: If the printer still does not recognize the cartridges, try cleaning the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water.
- Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party cartridges can sometimes cause recognition issues.
- Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Aldan4,
Thanks for your response and instructions. Your response was most appreciated. I have decided to return this printer to HP. I am waiting for HP to send me return instructions and a mailing label.
Best regards,
Erroll
