Smart Tank.
I can't print without waking it up! I'm tired of years of this.
There's no option in settings, only go to sleep in 15 minutes or turns off in two hours. Can't disable it.
It's absurd and shouldn't be something they set for me!
No more HP. The laptop sucked too!

Hi @Carol_007,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I hear your frustration loud and clear. Having a printer that forces sleep mode and won’t let you disable it can feel like the device is working against you, especially when you just want it ready to print instantly.
Here’s the reality: HP Smart Tank printers have energy-saving features hard-coded into firmware, which means the Auto Sleep and Auto-Off timers cannot be completely disabled. The options you see (sleep after 15 minutes, off after 2 hours) are the only configurable settings HP provides. This is part of HP’s compliance with energy efficiency standards like ENERGY STAR, so unfortunately, there’s no hidden setting to keep it awake indefinitely.
What You Can Do
- Set Sleep to the Maximum Allowed (usually 15 minutes).
- Disable Auto-Off if your model allows it (some Smart Tanks let you turn Auto-Off off via Embedded Web Server under Settings → Preferences → Energy Settings).
- Use HP Smart App or Print Before Sleep Timeout: Sending a print job wakes the printer automatically, but if the printer is in deep sleep, it may take 30–60 seconds.
- Firmware Check: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date; sometimes HP adds more flexibility in newer versions.

Thank you, Vikram. At least now I know there's no setting I'm missing.
It doesn't have a disable button and doesn't wake up when I press Print. What I have to do is go into the App once or twice and it wakes up which is so frustrating everytime I want to print.
I appreciate your answering.
