Product: OfficeJet Pro 7740

After performing a reset, my printer is stuck with the following error on the screen:
"A problem has occurred with one of the printer's critical system files. A printer update will be installed to fix this problem"

This is a OfficeJet Pro 7740

The printer does not seem to be updating itself, and the Firmware Update instructions I've found require network access to update it - but the printer never shows on the network.

What are the right steps to update the firmware? Is it possible to do using USB?
