Hello,
When we go into the web interface and try to change settings in the TCP/IP configuration, it prompts us for a username and password. We never set up any username and password before. This started happening with in the last few weeks. Is there a default username and password to use? If not, how do we bypass this?
Thank you,
Michael

Hi @Michaelr1994,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is prompting for a username and password when trying to access the web interface, and you haven’t set one up, here are some steps you can take to address the issue:
1. Try Default Credentials
Many HP printers have default login credentials. You can try the following common combinations:
Username: admin
Password: admin
Username: admin
Password: (leave blank)
Username: user
Password: user
2. Reset Printer to Factory Defaults
If the default credentials don’t work, you may need to reset the printer to factory settings, which should remove any custom username and password. Here's how:
Access the Control Panel:
- Navigate to Settings or Setup on the printer.
Find Restore Factory Defaults:
- Look for options such as Network Settings or Reset.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults or similar.
Confirm Reset: Follow prompts to confirm the reset.
3. Check User Manual
- Refer to your printer's user manual for specific instructions on resetting the password or factory resetting the device. This information can often be found on the HP support website as well.
4. Accessing via HP Smart App
- If you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or mobile device, you can try accessing the printer settings through that app, which might allow you to change settings without needing to log in.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
