I am trying to set up a deskjet 4252e and getting an error on incompatible cartridges (which came with my new printer).  I tried installing just the black one and no luck.  I tried installing just the colored one and success - it printed an alignment page. When I re-installed the black one I received an incompatible cartridge error again.  Help!

Hi @Janetmct,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When setting up your HP DeskJet 4252e printer, encountering a cartridge error can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridges you are using are the correct ones for your printer model. The HP DeskJet 4252e typically requires specific cartridges, so it's important to check that you have the right ones. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support.

Reinstall the Black Cartridge:

  • Ensure that the printer is turned on.

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.

  • Wait until the carriage stops moving before you proceed.

  • Remove the black cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape that might still be covering the ink nozzles or electrical contacts. If present, carefully remove this tape.

  • Reinsert the black cartridge, making sure it clicks securely into place.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

  • Gently remove the black cartridge.

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.

  • Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes.

  • Reinstall the cartridge and plug the printer back into the power source.

Reset the Printer:

  • Without turning off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.

  • Wait at least 60 seconds.

  • Reconnect the power cord.

  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Update Firmware: Check if there is any firmware update available for your printer. Visit the Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support to download and install any necessary updates for your device.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
