I am having an issue where my printer will print, but a few hours later will need a deep re-set (plus wasting ink and paper printing alignment pages) to print again.  The deep reset involves unplugging it for a few minutes and pressing the power button to drain the charge in the capacitor, and restarting it and letting it connect to wi-fi again.  I only set the printer up last week, having followed to the letter the instructions in the manual which is available online.  The printer is right next to the router so has a 5-bar indicator for good connection.  We have only just got this printer (having inherited it from a relative) in order to replace another HP printer which had the same issue plus a long history of other tiresome software problems.  Does anyone have a solution for this?  I have never satisfactorily or permanently resolved this before, despite following discussion threads on here and long web chats with HP tech support.   I just want a printer that will actually print!!

Hello there,

It's an HP Deskjet 2600 All-in-one, and we are using Windows 11 I believe.  It's a simple domestic set-up.

Thank you very much,

Tim T.

That printer only supports 2.4Ghz wifi. I have seen issues where rather than connect the 2.4 Ghz channel it will connect to the 5Ghz but not function properly due to incompatibilty. Below are a series of generic suggestions I have compiled. Some may not be applicable to your situation.

Many HP printers are/were built with older generation 5Ghz chipsets which can prove problematic with current 5Ghz networking equipment. That said, there are a few ways to mitigate the issue.
1. check to see if your printer network settings allow you to turn off the 5Ghz communication. This would be under network settings.
2. Check the settings of your router. Many newer routers allow you to restrict device connections to 2.4Ghz, which will stop the device from trying to communicate on the incompatible 5Ghz band.
3. If your router does not offer restrictions, the other method to limit the printer to only connecting to the 2.4Ghz channel is to configure the 2.4Ghz channel of the router to a unique SSID. (often the default from factory has both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz using the same SSID). Then only configure the printer to connect to the SSID associated with the 2.4Ghz channel. As the steps are different depending on vendor it is impossible to layout all the steps for every product here. The supplier of your wireless should be able to assist.

Thank you so much for your response @TimT1969

We would request that you connect the printer to the router with 2.4GHz as the printer supports only 2.4GHz.

We would also suggest that you do not have a dual connectivity Wi-fi as in 2.4GHz/5GHz and also place the printer as near as possible to the router for better connectivity. Once done we would suggest that you print a test page and check if the printer is printing.

If the issue still persists please let us know we will be happy to assist you further.

Have a great day!
