I installed an HP printer update on 7th February 2022. Now when I try to print, the print control screen changes to a pale blue colour with a heading "HP AiO Printer Remote" and shows an error message. Before installing the HP update the screen was dark blue and gave me options for size, double sided, etc. How do I put this right?

Not exactly the same question, but I installed an HP printer update on 7th February 2022. My printer is HP Deskjet 2720e, and I am running Windows 8.1 on HP Pavilion laptop.

Hello,

What is the exact model of your printer (e.g. CB747A)?

In some cases, remove the ink cartridges and reset the printer can solve the error.

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Before continuing, wait until the printer is idle and silent.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
  4. Remove the ink cartridges of the printer.
  5. With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  6. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  7. Plug the power cord into the outlet.
NOTE:  HP then recommends reconnecting the printer's power cord directly into a wall outlet.
  8. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer.
  9. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically make it.
It is possible that the printer goes through a warm-up cycle. It is also possible that the printer lights blink and the carriage moves.
  10. Wait until the preheat cycle and until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
  11. Reinsert the ink cartridge, and then close the access door to the cartridges.
  12. Print a calibration page, if prompted.
  13. If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the back of the product.
  14. Try to print.

If the printer is connected to the wireless or Ethernet network, please configure a new TCP/IP port as follows:

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows logo key and the R key simultaneously. The Run window opens.
  2. Type control printers, then press Enter. The Devices and Printers window opens.
  3. Right-click on your printer icon, then click on Printer properties, click on the Ports tab, and click on Add Port....
  4. Select Standard TCP/IP Port and click New Port....
  5. Click Next, then enter the printer's IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.97) in the Printer Name or IP Address field and click Next.
  6. Once the port is added, click Finish and close all windows.
  7. Try to print.

I remain at your disposal in case of need.

Hi Mans, Thank you, my printer model is HP Deskjet 2720e, product number 26K67B.

Your instructions are clear, but how do I find my printer's IP address, please?

Thanks for your returen,

Print a Network Configuration Page for information about the printer's wireless connection (information about the printer status, hardware (MAC) address, and the IP address).

  • On the printer's control panel, press the Wireless () button and the Information () button at the same time. Both a Network Configuration Page and a Wireless Network Test Report print.

To manage your printer, you can also use HP Smart app. HP Smart app is supported by the Windows 8.1 operating system.
HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

Please use the HP DeskJet 2700 All-in-On series Full Software and Drivers to install your printer.

Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Best regards,

[Edited to add complete software and drivers for your printer.]

Hi Mans, Your reply was helpful and I now understand how to find system information including the printer  IP address. I have followed your guidance and changed the port setting. I have also tried to reinstall the "Full Software and Drivers" as you suggest.

However, I regret that my problem with printing continues. I have screen shots of the problem that might help HP to understand what their software update has done to block me from controlling my HP printer from my HP laptop. I am not pleased or impressed by HP's software update!
