Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP Deskjet 2050 J510a - latest drivers installed.

Default setting for print will not hold and change back to defaults.
In printing defaults in advanced options when I select Black Ink Only and I apply options, printer prints in black, but only once.

When I print something next time, this option is reverted to Print in Grayscale: Off.

WHY???

Why this is happening when I select to apply the change??

Can someone explain why is this happening in this dumb HP printer???

Please.

I am waiting for answers.

John

Hi @johncobb, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Hi John, I understand how frustrating this must be. The issue you’re facing could be due to Windows or HP driver settings automatically reverting to default configurations. Here are a few things you can try to make sure the 'Black Ink Only' setting sticks:

Change Printing Preferences at the System Level:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click on HP Deskjet 2050 J510a and select Printing Preferences
  • Set Black Ink Only and apply the changes

Check Printer Driver Settings:

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Click on Print Server Properties (at the top)
  • Under Drivers, make sure the correct HP driver is installed

Disable HP Smart or Other HP Auto-Configuration Features:

  • Some HP software automatically resets settings. Try printing directly from applications without HP Smart

Set the Printer as Default and Remove Old Configurations:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your printer and set it as Default Printer
  • Uninstall and reinstall the printer to reset any corrupted settings

If the issue persists, you may need to manually change the settings each time before printing. HP software is designed to revert some settings to default for consistency, which can be frustrating. Let me know if you need further help!
