Printer defaults set to 1-sided but everything prints 2-sided.

We have our printer defaults set to 1-sided but everything prints 2-sided unless we manually change it in every software. This is getting very tedious. How do we make the printer default to one sided as per the settings?

AI Chat advises using printer preferences in the HP smart app but the only setting that I can find is already set to 1-sided. I can't find anything in the regular HP printer app.
