Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Manually align the printer

  1. Load plain white paper in the paper tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Settings icon .

  3. Touch Tools, and then touch the Down Arrow  once.

  4. Touch Align Printer.

The printer prints a test page, and then prompts you to scan the page.

  5. Lift the scanner lid, and then place the page on the glass according to the instructions on the alignment page.

  6. Close the scanner lid, and then touch OK.

Update the printer firmware

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice but the screen never gets to the option to use the tool key icon. Once I plug in the printer it goes to the error screen about loading plain paper, then asks to print alignment page, then once I press print alignment page it never prints --- just continuously circles the icon. I noticed something in an earlier post about a hard reset. How do you perform a hard reset on this printer? It will print from the computer or iphone, I just can't scan or copy.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

I hope that helps.

I tried going to the hp help website and I cannot get past the page that I enter the product number and serial number because the warranty has expired.

Any other ideas? There must be a way to hard restart this device.

Thanks for you ideas and assistance. Someone in an earlier post suggested pressing down hard on the three icons to the left of the display screen  -----  but the icons aren't showing in my device.
