Printer driver removed by Windows 10 update and won't reinstall correctly.

HP Recommended
Photosmart Pro B9180
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recent Windows 10 updates have removed the printer from the list of printers available.

When trying to re install the driver I get the message: Únable to Install Printer. Remote Procedure Call failed.

I have tried several different ways to install the driver, to no avail.

This has happened on both my Desktop and Notebook.

I note that consumables are no longer available for the printer, howe

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I reviewed your post and I understand that a recent Windows update uninstalled the printer driver from the computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check whether the issue is resolved.

Here is how it is done.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Restart the PC

14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

My apologies for the delay in responding, as I was awaiting delivery of a USB cable.

Unfortunately, the suggested fix does not work. I have also tried connecting the printer via USB but still get an RPC error right at the end of the installation process (which knows the printer is there).

It seems to me that the driver is not supported in the latest updates to Windows 10. It's disappointing, as the printer works fine, and I have a full set of consumables on hand.

Thanks in anticipation for considering this further.

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and install the Windows built-in drivers.

Thank-you again for your prompt response.

The driver update setting in the URL you gave me is already set as required, and no optional driver updates are available. The printer driver on the PC is the latest (and only version) downloaded from HP support.

After selecting the printer manually (Windows knows it is there) and then moving to the 'Type a Printer Name screen' and accepting the default and 'Next' the driver starts to install and then returns the RPC error mentioned.

Prior to the Windows update, the printer was working fine. I think I mentioned that the same problem occurred after the Windows update on both this desktop and my Notebook PC, so the fault is not machine specific.

Thanks again for assisting me in resolving this issue.

Paul
