I keep getting an error message on my printer saying the print is cancelled pending installation of the cartridges.they are, of course, all in, but I have to go through the process of extracting and re-inserting each carriage to cure the problem. is this the only route to success or is there another fix?

Update the printer firmware

 

HP regularly releases new printer firmware versions with product enhancements or issue fixes. Depending on your printer, apps on the printer control panel might also receive updates. Update firmware and apps on a regular basis to make sure you are getting the most out of your printer. Refer to this link for help.

 

If the issue persists, provide me with the following details to isolate the issue:

  • Does the printer refer to one particular ink cartridge or all ink cartridges?
  • Did you make any changes to the printer recently?
  • Have you tried using a different set of ink cartridges, if any?

sadly, it's a randomisers problem   and resolved conveniently but annoyingly by opening the printer bodying re-inserting all the cartridges.

Did you update the Printer Firmware as suggested by @ TEJ1602?

 

Have you tried different cartridges?
