My son recently set up a new HP DeskJet Series 2700 All-In-One Printer for me with a wireless connection. The guides and information sheets printed out perfectly. When I print Word Documents or PDFs from my laptop, however, the image is not printed at 100% size but is reduced somewhat. It looks as if some printer setting is overriding the document margin settings and reducing the image to fit the new parameters. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Sounds odd - Printing from within Word generally provides the options needed to print "at size"
NOTE
All of the following is "guesswork" -- the information might at least get you closer to finding what is happening and what you need to adjust / check. If there is something you don't need, don't understand, or don't want -- Ignore it.
=========
Important
Printer settings -- how these are managed - differ by the software / application used to open, view, configure, and submit the job to the printer.

Print in Word
Check your Word > Layout > Margins to ensure you have the document margins set to "Normal".
That you can print Word documents might indicate the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is already installed.
If you don't find the printer software in Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features,
Install the printer software.

What else?
This printer series does require a larger margin along the bottom edge.
Print Margin Bottom (A4) | 12.7 mm |
Print Margin Left (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Right (A4) | 3 mm |
Print Margin Top (A4) | 3 mm |
Set your Word document margins to no smaller than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm).

What else?
PDF files, when created using Export from a Word document generally keep the layout and margins as set in the original (Word) document.
If the margins in the original Word document are the 1/2 inch (Normal) margin setting,
If the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software is installed,
Consider
Print PDF / Size or Poster
Print PDF in Adobe Reader DC
Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader DC
Click the Print icon
Open Properties
Set Shortcut to Everyday Printing or similar (Plain paper printing, single sided)
Select your Paper Size
Click OK to save change(s) and Exit the Properties menu
Main print menu
If printing at 100% or smaller, Page Sizing & Handling = Actual, Fit / Shrink to fit, percentage (wording varies)
OR
If printing “larger than 100%”, Page Sizing & Handling > Poster
Poster Printing - Notes
- If the file is smaller than the paper size and you need it larger, increase the Tile Size
- If the file is already larger than the paper size, it will be divided into Tiled sheets needed to print the file
- Enter an "overlap" and whether you want the "cut marks" included
When ready, click to Print

HP Smart - Windows
HP Smart generally "fits" a PDF document to the paper.
Note: HP Smart can adjust an image / photo print according to the paper size, the photo size on that paper, and will use "Crop" or "Shrink to Fit" to set the image onto the paper.

Thank you for your speedy and knowledgeable response, but by the time I read it I had turned off and unplugged the printer then plugged and turned it on again and then NOTHING would print from my laptop! Printing from my phone was fine. Ultimately I tried to print from my husband's laptop... worked perfectly!! I deducted that I should not have added the HP Smart app to my laptop which I added after my son had put it on my phone to set up the printer initially (and then left !). After uninstalling the app from my laptop, all is well! I really must have confused the printer/laptop with too much information!
Thanks again. It's nice to know there is a responsive forum for my future questions.

You are welcome.
HP Smart for Windows is quite compatible with Windows 10 / Windows 11.
Nice little app (opinions differ, of course).
Happy 2023 !
