Color Laserjet m254DW
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all-

I need the firmware for my Color Laserjet M254dw. I think its the  20150716 - however I cant find this firmware anywhere nor can I access it on the HP page. Can someone also provide directions to downgrade my HP firmware?

Thanks!

That is a very old firmware and unless someone has it archived you will have difficulty finding it. It has a lot to do with possible operational issues when downgrading. Some components like the DC controller cannot be downgraded and it may not communicate with the rest of the printer after a firmware downgrade. Just to make you aware of the risks. The other issue is that older firmwares often present security risks as the landscape of security on printers has changed dramatically in the past few years.

I have the official dn and nw version of 2020-06-12 firmware, but i found on the net a mirror copy for DW version of 2020-06-12 version (i have not tested it) : https://www.ghost-white-toner.com/firmware-update-warning/

Use carefully.

Hi Repairatrooper-

Ok so since the 20201021 is the issue can you tell me what the firmware I should be looking for is and where I can find it? I cant believe that HP is so nasty that theyd put out a firmware update AND THEN not tell us it will stop our cartridges from working.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Stefan-

Thats not what Im looking for. I need teh previous firmware prior to 20201021 and I need to downgrade my computer to it. Ive been to the Ghost White Toner site and there is no info there as far as downgrading.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Downgrading firmware has its own risks. However to search for one seems to be a mission impossible.

Meanwhile could you try the below steps and see if it work ?

1) Power off the printer
2) turn off the wireless router.
3) wait for 40 seconds and turn on the printer and then the Wireless Router.
4) follow the below steps to disable IPv6 & DHCP6 on the Printer, use a web browser to navigate to the IP Address of the Printer. Once there, click on the networking tab, choose Networking Settings. There you will see a checkbox that says "IPv6" and "DHCP6" Uncheck that box and click apply.

5) Power Off the printer. Wait for 30 seconds and then power it on.  Try printing.

Let me know if the above steps worked for you.

Hi Jabzi-

Thanks for the steps but it did not work. Im still in need of the firmware previous to the one I have. The current firmware 20201021 is the issue - it needs to be downgraded to the previous version. I cant believe that no one on this vast site has not had this problem or has a solution...

Thanks for your help!
