After an update, my printer quit printing from my computer.  It shows that it is ready and connected but when I go to print, I get a message that says the printer can't print the document.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled my printer numerous times with it not changing anything.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver.  Any ideas on what I can try next?

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I suggest you download and run the HP Print And Scan Doctor from this Link: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Run PSDR v5.0.2

Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.

Select the correct Printer and click on Next.

PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing

Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.

Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”

PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.

Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue.  If no issue found close PSDR.

Let me know how it goes 😊

I have had exactly the same problem. I have ran the Print and scan doctor and it says that there are no problems with my printer, and my printer will print out the test page.
However if I try to print anything from a different source, a word document or a pdf, it still comes up saying 'printer in error state'.

I have installed  and uninstalled different drivers for the printer and still not working. I don't know what else I can do! Any ideas are very welcome.

I have an Envy 4524.

@Mooseylorid, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:

  • May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.
  • How is the printer connected to the computer?

Keep me posted for further assistance.
