I cannot install the HP Full Driver package for my HP Envy 7640. I have tried installing via HP Smart and via Windows. I got a little further with HP Smart. I got to where HP Smart could locate my printer on the wireless network, but it will not connect. It says "setup complete" then goes to "getting print driver information". It says "there was a problem during installation" and to click on "Printers and Scanners" to manually install driver. I select my printer from the list and click add. It goes a very small way on the status bar, but doesn't seem to be moving, so I go back to HP Smart and click on "next". It says "connecting" and after a long while it says "driver not available."
If I download the full software package or basic driver file from the HP website, it gets to the point where it shows my printer available on the network, but when I select my printer from the list (of one) and click "next" it says I can try again to install it over the network or click cancel to return to the connection options. Clicking cancel brings me to a page to search help and submit an error report. After submitting the report it says there is no solution found.
The printer works fine from another computer on the network.
I am trying to reinstall after deleting because if I tried to print anything before, after clicking the print button the screen flickered and nothing happened. Device Manager said further installation was needed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

After another couple of hours of searching and trying, I seem to have zeroed into the problem. After extracting the driver file rather than running the .exe I noticed that under "drivers" all that was shown was fax and scanner. So I did another search in this forum and found the following post which SOLVED MY PROBLEM! YAY YAY YAY

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Thanks for the reply. I have followed all those steps, from other posts, several times, with no success. Regardless of how I reinstall the software, some kind of error is the result. The most recent one is code 0x80004005, and I've seen the message that some properties will not display. I have found suggestions to solve that one too, but none seems to work. I will happily try any suggestions.

Are you able to copy?
Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
