HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 7740 wide bed printer.  Recently, the output on Letter sized paper has been shrunk to unreadable proportion in conflict to the preferences set (standard print on 8.5x11.0 paper.)  I am running MS 7 Pro operating system on a wireless network.  I cannot correct the printer's problem, and it may be that an updated Printer spec has been installed without regard to my Windows 7 Pro installation.

Hi @DBSsantafe,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is shrinking the output to unreadable dimensions even when the printer and preferences are set for Letter size, there are a few possible solutions you can try.

  • Check paper settings: Ensure that the paper settings on both your computer and the printer are correctly set to Letter size. Sometimes the settings can be misconfigured, resulting in the wrong paper size being selected.
  • Update printer drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause various issues. Visit the official HP website and download the latest drivers for your OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer. Install the updated drivers and see if the problem persists.
  • Verify document settings: Double-check the document settings in the application you're printing from (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Reader). Make sure the page size is set to Letter and that there are no scaling or resizing options enabled that could be affecting the output.
  • Reset printer preferences: Resetting the printer preferences to their default settings can help resolve any configuration issues. On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Setup or Preferences menu, find the option to reset settings, and select it. Afterward, reconfigure the preferences as needed.
  • Check for firmware updates: Printer firmware updates can provide bug fixes and improve overall performance. Visit the HP support website, search for your printer model, and check if any firmware updates are available. If so, follow the instructions provided to update the printer's firmware.
  • Try a different software/application: If the issue persists with a specific application or document, try printing from a different program or create a new document to test if the problem is software-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
