@harrytaylor, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Connection Issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your printer is having trouble connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Here are some steps that you can follow to try to resolve this issue:

Restart Your Devices

  1. Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer and unplug it for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
  2. Restart Your Computer or Mobile Device: Close all applications and perform a restart.

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode

To restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your printer:

  • Printers with a Touchscreen: On the control panel, open the Wireless menu or Setup menu, select Network Setup or Settings, and then select Restore Network Settings.
  • Printers without a Touchscreen: Use the control panel buttons to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer.

Check the Network Connection

Ensure that your computer or mobile device is connected to your Wi-Fi network and not to another network.

  • If the network status is not connected, connect to your network and check the status again.
  • Do not connect to the printer Wi-Fi signal DIRECT-xx-HP [your printer model name].

Enable Additional Connections:

  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your computer, even if it is connected with Ethernet.
  • Turn on Bluetooth: HP Smart app uses Bluetooth to detect the printer.
  • Enable Location Setting on your mobile device to allow the app to use your location and Bluetooth.

Move Closer to the Router

Place your printer and computer or mobile device within eight meters (26 feet) of the router or range extender. Check the connection status:

  • Printer Connection: If the wireless light or icon is solid and blue, the printer is connected to the network. If it is off or flashing, the printer is not connected.
  • Computer or Mobile Device Connection: Ensure a strong wireless signal.

Reinstall HP Smart App

  1. Uninstall HP Smart from your app store.
  2. Reinstall the app and attempt adding the printer again.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
