Microsoft Windows 11

I have setup this printer with the same laptop multiple times, but over different wireless networks. I have just reset it up at a location I have used before, but now it will not reliably print without causing an error in the print dialog. I have reinstalled multiple times and am looking for a silver bullet as it will not work.

@tomminva, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Here are troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue with your HP Smart Tank 7001 All-in-One printer:

Ensure Printer and Laptop Are on the Same Network

Confirm that both the printer and laptop are connected to the same wireless network. Sometimes, devices may inadvertently connect to different networks (e.g., 2.4GHz vs 5GHz).

Update Printer Drivers

Uninstall Current Drivers:

Go to Device Manager > Printers > Right-click on your printer > Uninstall device.

Delete any remaining printer drivers by going to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-clicking on the printer, and selecting Remove device.

Install Latest Drivers:

Download the latest drivers from the HP support website and install them.

Restart both your laptop and printer.

Reset the Printer's Network Settings

On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Defaults.

Reconnect the printer to your wireless network following the setup instructions again.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Clear Print Queue

On your laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

Click on your printer, then select Open Queue.

Cancel all print jobs if any are stuck in the queue.

Run HP Smart:

Restart Print Spooler (Windows):

  1. Search services in the search box. Open the service menu.
  2. In the list, find Print Spooler.
  3. Right-click Print Spooler and click Restart.
    1. If it’s stopped, click Start instead.
  4. Close the window. Check if the issue persists

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
