Hi @tamandburt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it can be when your HP Officejet 4635 skips lines or prints only half-lines, especially when you’ve already tried cleaning and diagnostics. You're doing everything right, and I’m here to help you fix this with care and clarity.

What’s Causing the Issue?

This kind of print defect is usually due to:

  • Clogged or misaligned printheads
  • Low or faulty ink cartridges
  • Incorrect paper type or settings
  • Driver or firmware issues

Steps to Fix Poor Print Quality

1. Try Single-Cartridge Mode

Remove the black cartridge and print using only the tri-color cartridge. This helps isolate if the black cartridge is faulty.

2. Use Genuine HP Ink

HP recommends using original cartridges. Refills or third-party cartridges may cause skipping or fading.

3. Let the Printer Rest

Sometimes, letting the printer sit for 30 minutes can help resolve ink flow issues.

4. Check Paper Type

Use clean, wrinkle-free paper. For best results, use HP paper with ColorLok technology.

5. Adjust Print Settings

  • Go to Print > Properties > Paper Type/Quality
  • Set Print Quality to “Best”
  • Ensure the correct paper size and type are selected

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
