Hi! I'm having issues with my printer. It used to work fine but we had it unplugged for a few months. We tried plugging it in today to print something; however, when it turns on, the loading bar slowly goes all the way to the end but then freezes when it gets to the very end. We've left it on for a couple of hours now and have tried power cycling it, starting it with the router unplugged, and holding the power button. Does anyone have a fix for this by chance?

Hi @romex1322,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your printer likely has a corrupted internal print queue or a minor firmware glitch. Since it was unplugged for a long period, an old print job in its memory is preventing it from completing the boot sequence.

Here are the most effective ways to break the freeze:

  • Clear the Print Queue (Crucial): Disconnect the printer from your computer or Wi-Fi, so no pending jobs can reach it. Go to your computer's settings, view the Windows Printers & Scanners (or Mac equivalent), and delete any documents stuck in the queue.

  • Perform a Cold Drain: Unplug the power cord while the printer is on. Hold down the physical power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the internal board. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors) and turn it back on.

  • Hardware Check: Remove all ink or toner cartridges. Turn the printer on without them to see if it bypasses the loading screen. If it boots, reinsert the cartridges one by one to find the faulty one.

  • Firmware Recovery: If you can connect it via USB to a PC, check Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support to download and "flash" the latest firmware directly to the printer in recovery mode.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
