I'M unable to complete the printer setup for the Officejet 5740.

The activation window is a blank. And I have no cues as to what's going on or what do do

How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks!

Hi @xavbas,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering a blank activation window while setting up your HP Officejet 5740 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue. Here's a general guide to help you.

  • Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your computer is connected to the internet. The printer setup process often requires an active internet connection.
  • Restart the Printer and Computer: Power off your printer and computer, then turn them back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Use HP Smart App (Optional): You can try using the HP Smart app, which is a mobile application designed to set up and manage HP printers. Download and install the app on your smartphone or tablet, and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware if available. Follow the instructions provided to update your printer's firmware.
  • Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, security software or firewalls can interfere with the printer setup process. Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall software and see if the activation window loads correctly. Remember to re-enable them after troubleshooting.
  • Try a Different Browser: If you're using a web browser for the setup, try using a different browser to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, browser compatibility can be a factor.
  • Reset Printer Network Settings: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings and reset the network settings. Afterward, run the wireless setup wizard to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  • USB Connection (Temporary): If you are facing difficulties with wireless setup, you can use a USB cable for temporary setup. Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable and follow the on-screen instructions for setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

HI Alden4

Thanks for your detailed troubleshooting list.

The computer is connected to the internet.

I'll check if the printer has a firmware update

I'll try a different browser

The USB  will be tough as the computer only has USB C and I'm not sure the dock will recognize the printer

I'll give them a shot and see how it does.

Thanks again
