I'm trying to install my old printer. It is hooked up to the USB port & turned on. I tried going through Windows, adding a printer, but it didn't find the printer. It showed up the 1st time, but didn't find software, so I was advised to delete it & find it again, & then it couldn't be found. I tried using HP Smart, but after a very long time, it could not find the printer. I tried loading the software from the CD, but it didn't support Windows 10. The installation failed.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Did you uninstall the printer from the root level before installing the new driver?

If not, follow the below steps:-

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Install printer using Windows built-in driver.

Here are the steps:- Click here

(Note:- Don't connect the USB cable until prompted during the install.)

Let me know how it goes.
