HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw

I am trying to connect a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw to a HP Laptop (17-by0008ng).

I downloaded the Installation Software, but during Installation process, after being told to connect computer and printer by cable, nothing happens. I do not get to the next step. Obviously the printer is not found/recognised by the computer.

The printer seems to have no mechanical problems, When I switch it on, the display is light but blank.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi @Herz-As,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw is not being recognized during the installation process on your HP Laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Printer's Display

  • The blank display on the printer could indicate a potential issue with the printer's initialization or communication. Try to turn the printer off, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on to see if the display responds.
  • Check if the printer is in a standby mode or any other state that might prevent the installation. If the screen remains blank, try performing a hard reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Unplug the power cable for about 30 seconds.
    • Plug it back in and power on.

2. Ensure Proper Cable Connection

  • Double-check that the USB or network cable is securely connected to both the printer and the laptop. Sometimes, the installation software might not detect the printer if the connection is loose.
  • If you're using a USB cable, try using a different port on your laptop. Preferably, use a direct USB port on the laptop rather than a USB hub.

3. Install Drivers Manually

  • If the printer is still not being recognized during the installation, try downloading and installing the drivers manually from the HP support website:
    1. Go to the official HP Support Page.
    2. Enter the printer model HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw.
    3. Download the latest full feature drivers (not just the basic drivers) for your operating system.
    4. Run the driver installation manually and follow the on-screen instructions.
    5. When asked to connect the printer, ensure that it is powered on and properly connected.

4. Check Printer's Network or USB Mode

  • Network Connection: If you're trying to install the printer wirelessly, ensure that the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your laptop. You can check the printer's network connection by printing a network configuration page from the printer's control panel.
  • USB Mode: If you're using a USB cable, make sure the printer is set to the correct mode (USB) in the printer settings. You might need to reset the printer's USB port.

5. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If the printer display is still blank or unresponsive after these steps, it may need a firmware update. You can perform a firmware update through the printer’s control panel or use the HP Support Assistant on your laptop to check for updates.

6. Check for Device Conflicts

  • Open Device Manager on your laptop (right-click Start > Device Manager) and check for any unknown devices or conflicts under "Printers" or "Universal Serial Bus controllers". If any devices have a yellow warning triangle, it could indicate a driver or connection issue.

7. Restart the Laptop and Printer

  • After following the above steps, restart both your printer and laptop to ensure that all devices are properly initialized and the installation can proceed.
