Hi @Syed1981,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 525 printer is not printing and showing as Idle. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Printer Status
Ensure the printer is powered on, with no error lights blinking on the control panel.
Make sure paper is loaded and ink levels are adequate.

Check Connection Type

USB Connection: Ensure the cable is properly connected to both printer and computer. Try a different USB port.

Wi-Fi Connection: Make sure the printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network. You can print a Network Configuration Page by holding the Wireless and Information (i) buttons together.

Set as Default Printer
On your computer, open Control Panel → Devices and Printers.
Right-click HP Smart Tank 525 and select Set as default printer.
A small green check mark should appear on the icon.

Clear Pending Print Jobs
Sometimes stuck print jobs keep the printer in Idle mode.

Open Control Panel → Devices and Printers → HP Smart Tank 525.

Click See what’s printing, then Cancel all documents from the Printer menu.

Restart both printer and computer.

Restart Print Spooler Service (Windows)

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it → Restart.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor (if available on your system).
This tool automatically detects and fixes common connectivity or driver issues.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Uninstall the printer from Control Panel → Devices and Printers.

Download the latest full-feature software for HP Smart Tank 525 from the HP website and reinstall it.

Try a Direct USB Print Test
If you’re using Wi-Fi, connect the printer directly to your computer using a USB cable and check if it prints.
This helps isolate whether the issue is with the printer or the network.

I hope this helps.
