HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e All-in-One Printer

The printer suddenly only prints:

!PS-Adobe-3.0 %APL_DSC_Encoding:UTF8

I can only print if I export the file to pdf, and print it through the HP SMART app.

I'm getting zero support from HP, and in order to get support, it's saying I need to pay more money.

I have paid everything they were asking for, paying for ink cartridges that say they are empty after printing less than 10 pages, paying for color cartridges even when I only need to print in black ink, and now they make some sort of update that broke my printer, and providing zero support.

Hi there @hanaswerfqawsef, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with printing issues and feel unsupported, I'll do my best to help you get this resolved.

Your printer is outputting something like:

!PS-Adobe-3.0 %APL_DSC_Encoding:UTF8

This typically means the printer is receiving a PostScript (PS) file it cannot interpret correctly often due to a driver mismatch or incorrect print protocol being used.

Recommended Steps to Fix:

Uninstall the current printer driver

  • Press Windows + R, type control printers, and press Enter.
  • Right-click your printer > Remove device.
  • Go to Programs and Features and uninstall any HP printer software listed.

Reinstall using HP Smart (Recommended)

  • Download and install the latest version of HP Smart/HP App: HP Smart
  • Open HP Smart and add your printer again. This ensures the correct driver and print protocol (IPP over HTTPS) is used.

Set HP Smart as the default print method

  • After adding the printer via HP Smart, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer > Manage > Set as default.

Avoid using “Microsoft IPP Class Driver” or “Generic PS”

  • These drivers can cause the PostScript error you're seeing.
  • If you must install manually, use the HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series PCL-3 driver from HP’s site: Official HP® Support

Optional: Print in Black Only

If you're being forced to use color ink even for black-only prints:

  • Open HP Smart > Printer Settings > Print Preferences.
  • Under Color Options, select "Print in Grayscale" > "Black Ink Only".

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.

A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care and happy computing!

Best regards,
