Printer only pulling blank paper through

My printer just pulls a piece of paper in, says "E" & freezes. I have to hit Cancel b/c nothing else works.  Then it pulls a blank sheet through and does the same thing over and over and over.  I have turned it off, unplugged it, still happens.  I cancelled all my pending print jobs in the computer.  I even shut down the computer & turned the printer back on & it still did the same thing.  I am low on colored ink, but I don't want to replace it & waste my money.  This just started happened a few days ago after i changed out the black ink cartridge.

Are any of the lights blinking? If yes, which ones? 

Remove the cartridges and try these steps:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Put the cartridges back in.

If you have your old black ink cartridge, put that in and let me know if you still see the "E".
