I purchased a printer and am unable to print because the previous owner has an HP Account where a problem has occurred.

I have changed all information and canceled any subscriptions but I still cnnot print.

How can I fix this?

Thank you!

Hi @Troubleprint,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating this is. You’ve done everything right by changing the account info and cancelling subscriptions, yet the printer still won’t let you print. This happens because HP+ and Instant Ink printers are tied to the original HP account for activation and cloud services. Even if you cancel the subscription, the printer remains linked until it’s properly removed from that account.

Why This Happens

  • HP+ printers require an active HP account for setup and printing.
  • If the previous owner didn’t remove the printer from their HP account, the printer stays locked.
  • Simply changing info or cancelling subscriptions doesn’t unlink the device.

Steps to Fix

You need to unlink the printer from the previous HP account and then set it up under your own account.

Step 1: Factory Reset the Printer

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Tap Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Or use the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • Enter printer IP in a browser → Settings → Restore Defaults.

Step 2: Remove Web Services

  • On the printer:
    • Setup → Web Services → Remove Web Services.
  • This clears the old HP account link.

Step 3: Reconnect and Re-register

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
