I'm trying to set up a print server on a Azure Virtual Enviroment and I'm having what appears to be a print driver issue.
When uploaded the driver to the print server it will only get the driver version 20.xxxx instead of 40.xxxxx
We can only install the printer drivers using .INF (which I'm getting by downloading from HP and extracting the .exe file)
Printing from a local computer works fine with the driver but printing on the Azure Enviroment never reaches the printer.
I have set up multiple printers in the same location but we are only having issues with this HP OJ Pro 7740
Currently I'm are looking forward to test with HP Windows Server 2019 driver but after that we would ran out of ideas
Looking forward to some assistance on how to install the driver version 40.xxxx using a .inf type file
OS: Windows 11 Enterprise multisession 10.0.26100

@Ershunior, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer server issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
It sounds like you've already put in a lot of effort trying to troubleshoot the driver issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740—so let's see if we can figure this out together.
You mentioned that the driver version 20.xxxx installs fine, but you’re trying to get version 40.xxxx installed using a .INF file extracted from the HP installer. Here are a few things you could try:
Double-check the extracted files:
When you extract the .exe file to get the .INF, make sure you're pulling the right .INF file. Sometimes there are multiple .INF files, and not all of them are the actual driver files. Try looking for one labeled something like hpofficejet7740.inf or similar.
Use the 'Add Printer' Wizard:
Instead of manually installing the .INF file, try using the "Add Printer" wizard in Windows:
- Go to Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Printers & Scanners
- Select Add Device → The Printer That I Want Isn't Listed
- Choose Add a Local Printer → Have Disk → Navigate to the extracted .INF file
Try Compatibility Mode:
Sometimes the driver version might not match perfectly with the OS. You can try running the .INF installer in compatibility mode for Windows Server 2019 or Windows 10:
- Right-click the .INF file → Properties → Compatibility
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: → Select Windows 10
Ensure the Driver Signature is Valid:
If Windows is blocking the driver because of an unsigned certificate, you can temporarily disable driver signature enforcement:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Type: bcdedit /set nointegritychecks on
- Restart your VM and try installing the driver again
Check Printer Port Configuration:
If printing works locally but not from Azure, it could be a port issue. Make sure the printer is set to a Standard TCP/IP Port and that the firewall settings allow communication through the port.
Give these steps a shot, and if it still doesn’t work, feel free to update us here. We'll figure this out together!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
