Hi @Brown751,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e is showing an issue where it asks you to “place scan for alignment” and either doesn’t proceed or fails to align, here's how to fix it:

1. Complete the Alignment Process Properly

After installing new cartridges, the printer usually prints an alignment page and asks you to place it on the scanner glass.

  • Once the page prints:
    • Open the scanner lid.
    • Place the alignment page face down on the glass (check the corner alignment mark, usually top-left).
    • Close the lid gently.
    • Press OK or Start on the printer to begin scanning.

If the alignment fails or doesn’t start:

2. Clean the Scanner Glass

Smudges, dust, or misalignment can cause the printer to fail the scan.

  • Use a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner (not sprayed directly) to wipe the scanner glass thoroughly.
  • Also, wipe the white underside of the scanner lid.
  • Try again.

3. Try Power Reset

  • Turn the printer off while it is idle.
  • Unplug it from the wall for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try the alignment again.

4. Skip Alignment (Workaround)

If it keeps failing, but you need to use the printer urgently:

  • Go to the HP Smart app or Embedded Web Server (EWS) (accessed via the printer’s IP address).
  • Look for Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
  • Some firmware versions allow you to manually bypass or defer alignment through the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
