Why does HP advise "do not select a DIRECT" named printer in the set up process?

The Direct network is meant for a direct connection to the printer, without using a router, therefore it is not applicable for a wireless network connection.

 

Be sure to restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode for the printer as listed under "HP DeskJet 2700, 2700e, 2800, 2800e, 4100, 4100e, 4200, 4200e, Ultra 4800, 4900 printers" below:

Then be sure to complete the setup through the HP Smart app by selecting the Setup network, which remains available for 2 hours following the reset:
