I am trying to set up an envy 6100e. Have been through the set up routine rigorously many times, but the HP smart app refuses to recognise the printer. I have again been through all the steps suggested, but still no luck. I set up the printer from my computer to print and it does this perfectly, so the computer is talking to the printer, but it only prints with no more of the functionality, e.g. scanning, does not work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @JOLS

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP Envy 6100e prints but isn’t recognized by the HP App, especially for scanning, the issue likely lies in how the printer is registered or connected within the app environment. Let’s walk through a clean setup to restore full functionality.

Step-by-step recovery guide

1. Remove and Reinstall the HP App

Residual data or failed pairing attempts can block proper detection.

  • Uninstall the HP App from your computer or mobile device.
  • Restart your device.
  • Download the latest version from the HP App page.
  • Launch the app and sign in with your HP account.

2. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This ensures a clean handshake with the app.

  • On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • This resets the network settings.
  • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi:
    • Use the HP App to add a new printer.
    • Follow on-screen prompts to connect via Wi-Fi.

3. Check for Full Feature Driver Installation

Printing may work with basic drivers, but scanning requires full support.

  • Visit the HP Envy 6100e Setup Page.
  • Download and install HP Easy Start.
  • During installation, choose Full Software and Drivers.
  • Restart your system after installation.

4. Enable Scan Functionality in HP App

  • Open the HP App and select your printer.
  • If it shows only print options, click Add Printer again and ensure it connects via Wi-Fi Direct or your local network.
  • Once added, the app should display Scan, Print, and Copy options.

5. Run HP’s Scanner Troubleshooting Guide

If the printer still doesn’t appear in the app or scanning remains unavailable, try setting it up from a different device (e.g., mobile phone) using the HP App to confirm whether the issue is device-specific.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps—I’ll help you fine-tune further if needed.
