I am trying to complete the set up but when it asks for the pin in my printer and I enter it, it says incorrect.  I double and triple check the number and it still says incorrect. I even had someone else try and still the same incorrect. Please help.

@Ripha1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
This PIN issue typically happens during the HP printer Wi-Fi setup or when adding the printer to HP Smart. Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve it:

Identify What PIN is Being Asked

There are two common types of PINs that might be requested:

  1. Wi-Fi Direct PIN – Used when connecting a device directly to the printer (e.g., via a phone or laptop).
  2. WPS PIN (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) – Displayed on the printer screen or printed from a report.

If It’s Asking for the Wi-Fi Direct PIN:

1. Check the printer screen (if it has one). The Wi-Fi Direct PIN may be temporarily shown.

2. If there is no display, print the Network Configuration Page:

  • On most HP printers:
➤ Press and hold the Information ("i") button until the report prints.
    ➤ Or press "i" + Wi-Fi Direct buttons together.
  • Look for a section labeled Wi-Fi Direct — the PIN is usually listed there.

3. If you've entered the correct PIN and it still fails:

  • Restart the printer and the device you're using (phone/laptop).
  • On your device, forget the Wi-Fi Direct network, then reconnect and try the PIN again.

If It’s Asking for the WPS PIN:

  1. Look at the printer display — the WPS PIN usually shows for 90–120 seconds after it’s generated.
  2. If there's no display, press and hold the Wi-Fi button (or Wi-Fi + Cancel) to print the network info page, which may include the WPS PIN.
  3. If WPS PIN doesn’t work or isn’t found:
  • Try restarting your printer and router.
  • Use the WPS Push Button method instead:
    >Press the WPS button on your router.
    >Within 2 minutes, press and hold the Wi-Fi or WPS button on your printer until it starts connecting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
