HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e and am having a couple issues. First I tried using the HP SMART APP setup but it insists on using WiFi, which I do not have. I downloaded the software from HP and installed it that way. The printer works, but I would like the diagnostic and upkeep functions from the HP SMART APP. Is there any way to get past the WIfI SETUP screen? It is the first screen I get when I open the app.

Second issue, the printer has two paper trays and it does not always pick the same tray when I use it. I would like to be able to select a default tray. If that is possible, how might I do that?

Thank you.

@Chuck1701, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Setting Up HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e and Using HP Smart App!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're facing challenges with bypassing the Wi-Fi setup screen in the HP Smart App for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e, you can try the following steps:

Using the HP Smart App without Wi-Fi

Initial Setup Without Wi-Fi: Since the HP Smart App typically initiates with a network setup screen, if you have no Wi-Fi, you'll have to set it up using a USB connection. Here’s how to do it:

  • Connect your printer to the computer using a USB cable.
  • During the software installation from HP's website, choose "Connect via USB" when prompted.
  • Complete the setup using the HP installation software without using the HP Smart App initially.

Accessing Diagnostic & Upkeep Functions:

  • Once the printer is set up via USB, open the HP Smart App.
  • If it insists on Wi-Fi, check for any option or prompt that allows you to choose "USB" connection or "Skip" any unnecessary screens.
  • You may also explore the "Devices and Printers" functionality within Windows if HP Smart App continues to prompt for Wi-Fi and you want to perform diagnostics and maintenance tasks.

Addressing the Paper Tray Issue

Configuring Dual Paper Trays: For using the dual paper trays effectively, ensure that both trays are loaded properly and the printer recognizes them:

  1. Go to the printer's settings either via the control panel if it is available on the printer or through the software installed on your computer.
  2. Check that both trays are configured correctly in the printer settings.
  3. Assign paper types and sizes to each tray if needed, ensuring that when you send a print job, the printer knows which tray to use based on your settings.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
