The HP Smart download is blocked on my computer so have been unable to complete the setup process; have tried without but without success.  Is it possible to obtain the HP Smart software as a .exe file, or is it possible to recover the situation without HP Smart?

             Hello helicon54,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Unable to download and install the HP Smart printer app

Troubleshoot issues if the HP Smart app fails to download from your app store.

Windows

Check requirements and settings to install HP Smart on a Windows computer, or use an alternative method to set up the printer if necessary.

  • Your computer must meet HP Smart system requirements. If you get an app store message that your computer is unsupported, check the system requirements in the app description.

If a computer update is required, search Windows for and open Check for updates to install any available operating system updates. Try to download the app again.

  • Make sure your computer is connected to an active internet connection.

  • Disconnect your computer from a Virtual Private Network (VPN) before downloading the app.

  • Set your computer to the correct location and time. Click Start > Settings > Time & Language, and then make sure the Date & time and Region settings are correct for your current location and time zone.

  • Reset the Windows Microsoft Store cache. Search Windows for and open Run, type wsreset.exe, and then click OK. A blank Command Prompt window opens for approximately 10 seconds, and then the App Store launches automatically.

  • Cancel the App Store prompt to create a Microsoft account. An account is not required to install HP Smart.

  • Check if your printer supports HP Smart. Go to Mobile printing solutions for HP printers to see if your printer is compatible.

If your printer or computer does not meet the requirements, or download issues persist, use an alternate setup method.

Go to 123.hp.com/setup. Follow the guided steps to download and open HP Easy Start. When prompted to choose an installation option, select Full Software and Drivers.

Hi Bernard 42; thanks you for taking the time and trouble to provide such a comprehensive reply, but my problem seems to be that the MS Store has been blocked on my computer by a VPN Administrator - albeit the computer now leads a stand-alone life.

I am trying (so far unsuccessfully) to get the computer taken off the network by the Administrator but meanwhile would like to try manually installing the necessary folders and files - if I could get hold of them.  Alternatively, if a simple hard-wire USB connection solution would work then that would be fine.  But so far as I can see, HP Smart is needed to do anything with this printer which, being so, should have been provided on a disc with the computer.

Meanwhile, have tried the Easy Start option you kindly mentioned below; this seemed to go fine, but once installed the amber warming light remains.  I will see if the handbook helps in that regard.

Once more, very many thanks for the time you kindly took to provide the advice below which is much appreciated.
